Bhawanipatna: Police arrested 13 members of an inter-district dacoit gang and seized over Rs 5 lakh cash, gold ornaments and other items from their possession, an officer said here.
The arrest was made here Thursday, he said.
Kalahandi SP Abhilash G said some members of the gang approached a businessman of Saintala of Bolangir district who was intending to start a jewellery shop. The businessman agreed to purchase gold from them, the SP said.
The businessman was called to a solitary place near Bhawanipatna railway station to receive gold. At the spot gang members looted Rs 13,05,000 from the businessman.
The SP said Rs 5.74 lakh cash, gold ornaments, a sword, a knife, and 14 mobile phones were seized from the possession of the gang persons.
He said investigation is in progress to ascertain the involvement of accused persons in other cases.
