Koraput: In a tragic incident, two children drowned in a pond while playing near the water body at Kanchana village of Lamtaput block in Koraput district, Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Amir Kirshani, 8, son of Shanti and Arjun Kirshani and Kapindra Kirshani, 6, son of Chandrama and Laba Kirshani in the village.
Reports said the kids’ mothers were working on their farmlands while the two kids who had followed them were playing close to a pond nearby. The two women after searching for their children in vain, returned home expecting the kids might have gone back. After they failed to find their sons at their residences, they again returned to the pond slippers of the children were found lying nearby.
Apprehending that the kids might have drowned, they cried inconsolably. Villagers rushed to the spot and fished out the bodies after a search operation.
Police registered a case and handed over the bodies to the family members after postmortem.
