Bhubaneswar: Demonetisation of `500 and `1,000 notes seems to have had no affect on robbers as some miscreants snatched `1.25 lakh from a finance company official at gunpoint here Wednesday evening.
Janalakshmi Financial Services Limited official Girija Shankar Panda alleged that three men on a bike looted cash and laptop from him near Phuleshwari Basti.
“I was going to my office at Kolathia on my motorcycle after collecting the money. On the way, three miscreants on Blue Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle without any registration number waylaid me. One of the miscreants kicked me after which I fell down and injured my leg. I then started to run to escape, but two of them chased me on foot. One of them had a gun. The third miscreant followed me on motorcycle,” Panda, a native of Kendrapara district, said.
“There was a boundary wall near the road and I tried to throw the backpack across the wall, but failed to do so. The two ruffians came and snatched it from me. The bag had `98,000 in old denomination notes and around `27,000 were new denomination notes. They also took my office laptop which was in the backpack,” he added.
Panda claimed that the people present there told him that the miscreants are natives of nearby areas. “The locals told me that one of the miscreants is native of Sijua,” he further said.
Meanwhile, the police said they have received a complaint in this regard and had visited the spot to investigate the
matter.
“We are investigating the matter and will take action accordingly,” they added.
