Odisha weather: IMD advises fishermen not to venture into sea, heavy rainfall of 7 to 20cm expected

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar in its weather bulletin for Saturday informed that squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph is very likely over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast during the next 24 hours.

The weather agency advised fishermen not to venture into northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast during the next 24 hours.

The agency also told that the low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighburhood now lies over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of West Bengal-north Odisha coasts and the associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 kilometre above mean sea level tilting southwards with height. It is likely to move west northwestwards across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh during the next two-three days.

Upto 8.30 AM of August 19: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20centimetres) is very likely to occur at one or two places over Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Jharsuguda and Bargarh district.

Also, heavy rainfall (7 to 11centimetres) is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Nuapada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khorda, Cuttack, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Balasore districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of August 19 to 8.30 AM of August 20: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heavy rainfall (7 to 11centimetres) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of the state.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershower is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 29 degree Celsius and 24 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 33.6 degree Celsius was recorded at Jagatsinghpur while the lowest minimum temperature of 22.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Phulbani and Nabarangpur, the weather bulletin informed.
