Bhubaneswar: Bus services from the newly constructed Baramunda Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Bhubaneswar will commence in October, Vice-Chairman of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Balwant Singh has said.
Singh informed that more than 90 per cent of the terminal’s construction work has already been completed. The ISBT is set to operate under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with an operational framework firmly in place.
According to a source, once fully operational, the Baramunda ISBT is poised to become the largest bus terminal in the state with a capacity to accommodate more than 500 buses, catering to a multitude of passengers daily.
Buses are currently operating from a site near Khandagiri hill in Bhubaneswar as a stop-gap arrangement.

To ensure the seamless functioning of the terminal, authorities have crafted a comprehensive traffic management plan for buses entering and exiting the ISBT. This plan aims to enhance passenger convenience while maintaining smooth traffic flow in the vicinity, the source added.
Under this strategic plan, buses arriving from the Cuttack side will take a U-turn at Khandagiri Square before reaching the ISBT. Meanwhile, those approaching from Khurda side will have direct access to the terminal. Furthermore, the connecting roads to the ISBT from NH-16 have been widened to ensure improved accessibility, the source concluded.
