Keonjhar: A fast track court here Tuesday sentenced Sipun Maharana, 30, to 20 years in prison after convicting him of raping a minor girl.
Justice Bijay Kumar Mishra also slapped a fine of Rs10,000 on the convict. Failure to pay the fine will lead to an additional six months in prison, the judge ordered.
As per the case diary, the incident took place November 27, 2017. Sipun had forcibly abducted the minor girl when she was playing in front of her home and raped her. At the time of the incident, the family members of the victim had gone to the market. Taking advantage of the situation, Sipun committed the crime, police said.
When the family members of the victim returned home, they found her lying in a pool of blood and writhing in pain. The girl then narrated her ordeal to her parents.
A complaint was subsequently filed at the Turumunga Police Station. After medical examination of the victim, police arrested Sipun. During the trial the accused was lodged at the district prison in this town.
