Rourkela: Noting that life could be better with the use of technology and skills someone has acquired from educational institutes, ISRO chairman AS Kiran Kumar Saturday called upon students to work in tandem with people’s representatives to transfer knowledge to the masses.
Acquiring knowledge is a never-ending process and the youths should use it for the prosperity of the nation, Kumar said. He was here to attend the 14th convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) here.
An eminent space scientist of the country, Kumar said science and information technology can play a significant role in the country’s economic development.
Putting emphasis on the importance of the Green Revolution, the ISRO chairman said it is not wise to dream for a developed nation at the cost of environment. The country can use fresh technology gained from space research in finding solution to several incurable diseases and protection of environment. India’s Mars expedition, with minimal expenditure due to the use of indigenous technology and resources, has set an example for others in the world, Kumar said.
RV Raja Kumar, the director if IIT-Bhubaneswar presided over the programme and greeted 1,300 pass-out students of NIT for their success. He advised them to play a part in realising the Make in India and Startup India campaigns launched by the Prime Minister.
NIT director Animesh Biswas told about the future prorammes and projects of the institute. NIT, known as Regional Engineer College (REC) when it was set up in 1961, has managed to get a place in the top 800 universities of the globe during 2016-17 academic sessions, Biswas said.
Ten scholars including eight students of NIT received gold medals on this occasion. Certificates were given away to 532 B Tech, 48 MSc, 15 MA, 32 MBA, 416 M Tech, 61 Integrated MSc, 126 dual degree holders and 103 PhD students at the ceremony. PNN
