Bhubaneswar: Human Rights activist Pradipta Nayak appealed to Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) Monday requesting to intervene in the matter with regards to the mass arrest of tribal men and women by Bada Sahi police under Mayurbhanj district May 30, 2024. Nayak, in the letter to OHRC chairperson, alleged that 38 tribal men and women of village Belapala, under Mayurbhanj district have been arrested by the Bada Sahi Police on charges of breaking of vehicles and attacking the police on duty.
Names of the arrestees are Meena Singh, Somabari Singh, Sukri Singh, Rajani Singh, Phulamani Singh, Kentuni Polei, Libu Singh, Malati Singh, Sumi Singh, Mini Singh, Bharati Bisol, Somabari Singh w/o Sibi Singh, Somabari Singh w/o Rajendra Singh, Nandin Polei, Jasoda Singh, Sarathi Bag, Sanjulata Bag, Bulu Naik, Rajesh Polei. Binod Bag, Chanda Singh, Sujit Singh, Arun Polei, Bikram Singh, Biswanath Naik, Rohita swar Naik, Jhadeswar Naik, Aruna Patra, Radhamohan Singh, Shyamasundar Singh, Bhagirathi Dandapat, Suman Digar, Debasmita Das, Rina Naik, Sulochana Naik, Susila Jena, Rajendra Singh and Prabodh Bhuinya. Nayal alleged that the villagers were regularly opposing to illegal sand mining (Bali Ghat) near their village on river Budhabalanga.
