Bhubaneswar: State Social Welfare Board (SSWB) will be revamped soon, Deputy Chief Minister and Women and Child Development (WCD) Minister Pravati Parida said during a meeting at the State Institute of Women and Children (SIWC) here Wednesday.
Chairing an NGO consultative meeting, the minister said the board is crucial for the development of the state and it can be effectively managed through partnership between the government and voluntary organisations. She also sought suggestions from the stakeholders in this regard. WCD department Shubha Sarma Principal Secretary informed that a committee will be formed to discuss proposals and suggestions received from different organisations in revamping the board. Social Welfare Board Director and ICDS Monisha Bannerjee, senior officials of the department and representatives of voluntary organisations were present in the meeting. On this occasion, the minister inaugurated the yoga-cum-wellness centre, along with badminton and volleyball courts at State Institute of Women and Children (SIWC) campus in Laxmisagar here Wednesday.
Parida also planted saplings of Jamun and Indian Gooseberry (Amla) as part of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. Addressing the gathering, the minister said that the treeplanting campaign has become very popular throughout the country and urged the people to plant trees in the name of their mothers to give a better future to next generation. Parida also advised voluntary organisations to plant banyan trees as they are very useful for the environment.
