Bhubaneswar: Scores of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII students along with their parents staged demonstration in front of the Board office at Sahid Nagar here Monday protesting discrepancy in evaluation of answer-sheets of the annual exam, results of which were declared Sunday.
While some students alleged that their results had been withheld for no reasons, others raised their voice against alleged faulty evaluation of answer-sheets. The agitating students and parents demanded immediate steps for correction of anomalies in evaluation of answer-sheets and declaration of results at the earliest.
“I can’t believe that I have secured 5 marks in Math and 9 in Chemistry, whereas I’ve scored 85 in English. I am not as bad a student to become unsuccessful. The school has my pre-board results and I have secured more than 80 per cent in aggregate. How can I believe that I have failed in the exam? I want my papers to be re-evaluated soon,” said Lopita Dash, a protesting student.
“We want a reply from the CBSE regional director immediately about the issue, otherwise we will move court,” said one of the parents participating in the protest.
The entire area surrounding the CBSE office was fortified with heavy deployment of police personnel in the wake of the protest while the main office was locked. Results of many students in the state were withheld by the Board creating panic among the students and parents even as the CBSE regional office here was closed Sunday. Meanwhile, Sudarshan Das, convenor of CBSE Class XII Parents’ Association, said the association would move the Orissa High Court Tuesday over the discrepancy in evaluation. He said that the association had already given a memorandum to the CBSE regional director in this regard.
The agitating parents and students also said it was for the first time that declaration of results was delayed by a week. The Class XII results were published May 21 last year.
According to sources, the CBSE had earlier decided to discontinue the mark moderation system following which the High Court and the Union government intervened and asked the Board to continue with the system which led to the delay in declaration of results.
The results of a few students and some schools from Orissa had been withheld ‘due to some technical glitches’ Sunday which sparked off resentment, the sources added.
