Bhubaneswar: The state government identified 20 forest villages that would be converted into revenue villages soon, said SC and ST development minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi here Saturday. “We have identified 20 such villages where 80 to 90 per cent people will receive land titles will be converted into revenue villages,” Majhi told reporters. Sources said so far no forest village, old habitations, un-surveyed villages in the state have been converted into revenue villages even though about 340 such villages have been identified in 16 districts till March 2017. “Orissa is the first state to distribute maximum number of land titles (patta) under the Forest Rights Act, 2006. Majhi said till date 4,5,897 people have been provided with
individual land titles while 5,891 with community land titles. All district collectors have been instructed for demarcation of the allotted land within March 2018,” the minister said. He further stated that 6,7,988 acres of land titles have been provided till date under individual rights and 2,86,381 acre under community rights. Decisions on the claims that have been rejected will again be taken up by the committee at the district level by collectors and at sub-divisional level by sub-collectors, he added.
