International Yoga Day: Denizens bend it like fitness experts

Bhubaneswar, June 21: Denizens observed International Yoga Day here, Wednesday. A plethora of events were organized in various parts of the city. Orissa POST brings you the insights from some of the venues.

Janta Maidan A mega event was held at Janata Maiden. Around 15,000 volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and NCC participated in the event, held early in the morning here.
Buddha Temple In another event organized by Prayas Yoga and Mahabodi Society at Buddha temple, special yoga sessions were conducted. Yoga expert Pratima Das was guiding people with various yoga postures at Buddha Temple. “There are many yoga postures. They have their specific importance. They help in
checking diseases. With regular Yoga exercises, one can control
diseases like diabetes, blood pressure, stress, hairfall, vision prob
lem, abdominal problems, and body pain. During the event, we
helped all the participants to understand the benefits of specific yoga exercises,” she said.

IIT Bhubaneswar Yoga day was also observed on IIT Bhubaneswar campus. The participants were introduced to Yoga postures like Kapalbharti, Pranayama, Dhyna, Sankalpaand meditation. Prayers were recited before and after the programme. Director R V Raja Kumar talked about the benefits of practising Yoga and highlighted the potential for customisation to suit the individual.

DAV Public School DAV Public school Unit-VIII conducted Yoga sessions by instructor Paresh Mishra. He motivated students to practice yoga for attaining a healthy mind and a fit body. More than 1000 students and 150 teachers participated in the event with immense enthusiasm.

BJEM School BJEM School conducted a yoga session with yoga Guru Ramakanta Pradhan and Snehanjali Pradhan. There were over 500 student participants.

Yoga at KIIT International Yoga Day was celebrated in KIIT and KISS at KIIT Cricket Stadium, Wednesday. Thousands of staff, students and teachers of KIIT and KISS assembled at 6:45 am in KIIT ground for practice Yoga. At 7:00am Yoga session started as per the schedule of national yoga ceremony. In KIIT, the Yoga practice was lead by founder of KIIT and KISS, Achyuta Samanta. The founder, Samanta said, “Yoga is the only way to free our body and mind from various illnesses.” “Yoga is a journey through the inner ‘self’ to connect to the supreme soul. Yoga and meditation are essential for every human as it relaxes mind and resists body,” he added
