Bhubaneswar, June 22: Two Oriya writers will receive national awards by the Kendriya Sahitya Akademi for their contributions towards literature. The Kendriya Sahitya Akademi announced names of the winners of this year’s ‘Bal Sahitya Puraskar’ and ‘Yuva Puraskar,’ Thursday. The awards were announced for literary contributions in 24 languages, during a meet chaired by Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari at Guwahati, Assam. This year, authors of 16 poetry books, five short story books, two biographies and an essay book have been selected for Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar-2017. Oriya writer Suryasnata Tripathy will receive Yuva Puraskar for his poetry collection ‘E Sampark Emiti.’ Subhendra Mohan Srichandan Singh will receive Bal Sahitya Puraskar for his contributions towards children’s
literature. Srichandan Singh has written over 100 books. This is the third poetry collection of Suryasnata Tripathy. His other two collections are ‘Hazaare Janha Ra Rati’ and ‘Gangasiuli Ra Gapa’. Each of them will be conferred with the awards in the form of a casket, containing an engraved copper plaque and a cheque of Rs 50,000 at special functions later. Speaking to Orissa POST, Suryasnata said, “I am really overwhelmed with the decision of Sahitya Akademi for selecting me
for the award. It’s a big achievement and I feel proud to get it. The award is more like a responsibility now to match up the expectation of readers.” “Awards make a lot of difference as they provide inspiration and the courage to do best. I going to keep on writing,” he added. Speaking about his poetry collection, Suryasnata said, “There are around 40 poems, which talk about relationship with various people and god, human emotions and other things. I have tried to put the human emotions into simpler words so that everybody can understand and relate.” Suryasnata who is pursuing his Phd from IIT Hyderabad, prefers to write in Oriya and Hindi, started writing from his early age. “I read lots of literary stuff specially poetry from my childhood. I was a very shy kind child so used to avoid social gathering, so started writing and poetry came naturally.
