Cuttack, June 23: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Friday withdrew its plea seeking High Court’s review of its June 7 interim order to the board to evaluate afresh the answer scripts of some class XII students, whose results were published in May, CBSE sources said here.
The sources added the CBSE withdrew the petition on an intervention by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, who along with Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had assured the parents of aggrieved students that seeking reevaluation of the answer sheets was genuine and within the provisions of the rules governing the examinations.
The Orissa High Court, while hearing a bunch of petitions by students alleging discrepancies in marks awarded to them, had ordered revaluation of papers of 181 students in two separate orders.
While the Board has already rechecked 51 papers of 18 students by engaging experts and published their revised results, at least 159 more students have obtained court orders for fresh evaluation.
Earlier, CBSE authorities had decided to refund the reevaluation fees of students whose marks will see an increase by 10 in the rechecking of answer sheets.
“The board will provide photocopies of answer sheets to students. So, any student can apply for reevaluation if he or she finds any discrepancy in the marks. CBSE officials will accept the rechecking applications till June 30,” Sudarshan Das, an office bearer of the Parents’ Association had said. PNN
