Berhampur: Doctors at Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) Medical College and Hospital successfully performed a rare surgery, removing a 22-cm tooth stick lodged in an elderly woman’s food pipe. She is now reported to be stable.
According to sources, 70-year-old Kamaraju Nayak of Natanga village in Belaguntha block accidentally swallowed the twig while brushing her teeth a few days ago. Soon after, she began experiencing problems with eating and performing her daily activities. Although she informed her family, they initially did not believe her. When her condition worsened and it became almost impossible to take food, Nayak sought treatment at a government hospital in Bhanjanagar.
Family members said she lived on only liquids for a week. With no improvement at Bhanjanagar, she consulted both government and private doctors in the area before being admitted to the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department at MKCG Monday.
