Rayagada: The state government will spend Rs 36 crore on the redevelopment of Maa Majhighariani temple in Rayagada, with the project officially launched Friday through a groundbreaking ceremony on the shrine precincts.
Of the sanctioned Rs 36 crore, Rs 26 crore has already been released. The redevelopment will be carried out under the supervision of the Works department, with Kashi Kanchana Pvt Ltd Construction Company executing the project. Authorities have set a two-year target for completion.
As part of the redevelopment, the temple complex will feature three approach roads, a guest house, an office building, a tonsure hall, a park, toilets, a rest house, and parking facilities. Arrangements will also be made to ensure that devotees from within and outside the state can have darshan of the deity in an orderly manner. The project further includes 26 kiosks selling puja items and other essentials, while the second floor of one building will house the temple trust committee office.

Another two-storey building will feature a tonsure centre on the ground floor, accommodating up to 50 devotees at a time, and a big dining hall (Annabhoga Kendra) on the upper floor with a capacity of 250 people. Plans are also in place for the construction of three main gates, the restoration of an ancient temple on the premises, and a circumambulatory path. The design for the redevelopment has already been finalised.
