Lahunipada: A woman and her four-year-old son died after being bitten by a snake late Tuesday night at Barachhuan in Lahunipada block and the Mahulpada police limits of Sundargarh district.
The deceased were identified as Tulasi Kohl, 29, and her son Abinash. According to reports, Tulasi, along with Abinash and her two other children, slept on the floor after having dinner, while her husband Rath was asleep on a cot.
Around 2 am, Rath woke up and saw a snake attempting to climb onto the cot.

He immediately killed it and went back to sleep.
After a while, he woke up to find Tulasi and Abinash frothing at the mouth while still lying on the floor.
With help from neighbours, he rushed them to the Bonai sub-divisional hospital. Doctors there declared Abinash dead, while Tulasi was referred to the government hospital in Rourkela, where she later died.
