Cuttack: A minor girl was subjected to brutal torture by a doctor and his wife who employed her as a domestic help in their house at Manglabag area in the city.
The incident came to light after the 12-year-old tribal girl fled the house and was subsequently rescued by the Childline members. The district child welfare committee (CWC) Friday recorded the statements of the girl and summoned the accused doctor.
According to sources, the minor girl hails from Ratapada in Patna police limits of Keonjhar district. Her father works as a labourer to maintain his family of five. Five months back the girl’s father left her in the house of the doctor to work as a domestic help.
The girl said he used to do all the household chores and take care of the doctor’s child. The doctor and his family often had their food in hotels and give the minor girl stale food. Whenever the girl raised her voice, the doctor and his wife subjected her to brutal torture.
The girl further said the doctor and his wife used to lock her inside the house when they left for work. After going through the horrifying experience over past couple of months, the girl managed to flee the house by breaking the skylight of the house August 2.
The victim spent a night under the open sky in the city and was subsequently rescued by Childline coordinator Narayan Sukla.
Meanwhile, the girl’s grandfather lodged a complaint with Manglabag police about his missing granddaughter August 5. However, the police allegedly sat silent after registering a case under Section 363 of IPC.
Angry over police inaction, the minor girl’s mother along with some villagers reached the Manglabag police station and protested. Later, they came to know that the girl was rescued and taken to Basundhara.
The police produced the girl before CWC where the girl narrated her horrifying experience. “After listening to the ordeal of the minor girl, we have asked the doctor to depose August 21,” CWC chairman Bikash Mohapatra said.
