Berhampur: Acting on the directions of district collector, sub-collector Siddhartha Shankar Swain Monday ordered an inquiry into the death of a minor boy at a deaf and dumb school in Ambapua after hot oil accidentally spilled on his body.
The sub-collector directed a team to probe the charges and engaged an expert to interact with the inmates at the school hostel to ascertain the truth behind the incident.
Swain, while directing a probe, also sought a report from the school authorities.
A five-year-old boy Bishnu Prasad Sahu, son of Sushant Sahu in Purushothampur block, succumbed to burns caused by spilling of hot oil on his body at the kitchen room of the school hostel August 13.
He was admitted to the school three months ago and was studying in Class I by staying at the hostel.
He was first admitted to the Berhampur-based MKCG Medical College and Hospital and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his condition got worsened. He remained there for a week but finally succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in Cuttack August 19.
The death of the minor had sparked tension among the grieving family members. They put up the body on school premises Sunday and staged a sit-in demanding the arrest of the headmaster and school authorities.
Sources claimed that the school authorities initially tried to mislead the family members saying that the boy was injured when hot rice gruel fell on his body.
However, the doctors at Cuttack termed the injuries to have occurred because of hot oil spill on the boy’s body. PNN
