Balasore/Remuna: A Class IX student was seriously injured after he was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon by a Class X student inside the premises of Remuna High School in Balasore district Saturday, reportedly over a love-related dispute, police said.
The incident took place during the PM SHRI programme celebrations, when most teachers were engaged in festival arrangements. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused allegedly brought a sharp weapon to the school through a classmate and, with the help of five to six other students, lured the victim to the rear side of the campus.
Police said the victim was taken to a toilet behind the western block of classrooms, where the accused attacked him, causing injuries to his head and hand. The injured student managed to escape and alerted a teacher, following which the school authorities immediately shifted him to Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital. Doctors said his condition is stable.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was upset after a Class IX girl student, with whom he had earlier been in a relationship, became close to the victim. The accused allegedly carried out the attack in a fit of rage.
The accused student later surrendered at the police station and admitted his involvement. Police have seized the weapon and registered a case. Written complaints were filed by the acting headmistress and the victim’s family. Senior revenue and education officials visited the school to review the incident.
