Morada: In a horrific incident of mob lynching, a youth was beaten to death on suspicion of being a child lifter at Dengashola village under these police limits in Mayurbhanj district, Monday.
The victim, whose identity could not be established immediately, is suspected to be mentally unstable, Morada police station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Sumit Kumar Soren said.
According to police, the incident took place Monday noon near Dengashola when four youths were allegedly attempting to abduct a child. They were chased and caught by a group of locals. Three of the suspects managed to flee, while one was caught by the mob and severely assaulted.
Police rescued the injured man and admitted him to Kisantandi CHC at Baramile. However, he succumbed to his injuries there.
The body has been sent to PRM Medical College and Hospital in Baripada for post-mortem, and an investigation is underway, police said.
Notably, panic has spread over alleged child-lifting incidents in the Morada area in recent days. Residents are reportedly afraid of letting their children play outside.
