Kataka: A woman was allegedly raped by a group of men in Odisha’s Kataka district when she was out with her friend on a drive, police said Wednesday.
The incident happened in the Nischintakoili police station area Tuesday night, they said.
The woman was out with her male friend and heading towards Kendrapada from Bhubaneswar, police said.
“When they stopped near Sukarpada village on the Cuttack-Chandbali Road, a group of four to six men intercepted them. The suspects thrashed friend and gangraped woman,” SP (Cuttack – Rural) Vinit Agrawal told PTI.
“The group fled spot, leaving two at the spot,” he said.
A case has been registered on the basis of the complaint lodged by the survivor, Agrawal said, adding that a DSP-rank officer has been appointed as investigating officer.
“Multiple teams have been formed to nab the accused persons. We are hopeful that they will be arrested soon,” he said.
