Mumbai: Talented Prithvi Shaw (66, 80b, 9×4, 1×6) gave glimpses of his prowess as a young Board President’s XI (BPXI) comfortably defeated New Zealand by 30 runs in their opening warm-up game here, Tuesday. BPXI scored 295 for nine after put into bat and then bowled out the tourists for 265 in 47.4 overs.
Facing a senior international side for the first time, 17-year-old Shaw scored a brilliant half century and put up 147 runs for the opening stand with KL Rahul (68, 75b, 9×4, 1×6). Karun Nair (78, 64b, 12×4) also struck an aggressive half century. For the visitors, Trent Boult (5/38) shone with the ball.
In reply, Kiwi batsmen got starts but couldn’t capitalise and were bowled out for 265. The only notable partnership for them came when Ross Taylor (34) and Tom Latham (59, 63b, 7×4) added 73 runs for the fourth wicket. Skipper Kane Williamson (47, 49b, 7×4) also played a crucial hand, putting on 69 runs with Colin Munro (26) for the second wicket.
Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem (3/41) and Jayadev Unadkat (3/62) bowled well for the hosts.
