Ganjam: In a horrific incident, a woman reportedly killed her 12-day-old daughter and subsequently dumped her body in a well.
She was reportedly assisted by her parents in the crime. The incident was reported from Diandein under Rambha police limits in Ganjam district Wednesday.
The woman Prabhasini Nayak and her parents have been detained for interrogation, Rambha IIC Namita Nayak said, adding a case has been registers and investigation is on.
According to sources, G Jagannath of Karpada in this block had married Prabhasini one-and-a-half year ago.
Prabhasini’s parents took her home after she became pregnant. However, she and her parents were unhappy when she delivered a baby girl, sources said.
On the other hand, Jagannath and his family were happy when they heard about the delivery and were awaiting Prabhasini’s return with the baby. However, Prabhasini called Jagannath and informed him that the baby was stolen.
A worried Jagannath lodged a complaint with Rambha police who swung into action and reached Prabhasini’s house for investigation.
During interrogation, she confessed to have killed the baby and dumped the body in a well, 100 metre away from her house. Rambha fire brigade personnel fished out the body from the well. PNN
