Brahmapur: A mob assaulted four people in Odisha’s Ganjam district, suspecting them of being goat thieves, a police officer said Monday.
A video is being examined to ascertain the truth behind the incident that took place at Khairabeti village under Hinjili police limits, he said.
The accused people, who are in the age group of 25 to 28 years, were later handed over to the police.
The mob attack happened September 5 but came to the fore Monday when a video showing the four people getting beaten up surfaced.
The police said the four, hailing from different areas of Ganjam district, have also not made any official complaint about the assault.
Based on the report of the villagers, the police arrested them, said Srinibash Sethi, inspector in charge of Hinjili police station.
The four secured bail from a court
“We are verifying the video which went viral on social media,” Sethi said.
