Jajpur: A court in Odisha’s Jajpur district Thursday sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for murdering her husband by strangling him with a mobile charger cable.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Bisweswar Biswoprakash Ray also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict, Mamata Kuanr.
Following a family dispute, Mamata allegedly strangled her husband Atal while he was asleep on the night of July 20, 2021, using a mobile charger cord, the prosecution said.
Based on a complaint lodged by Atal’s brother, police arrested Mamata along with two others.
During the trial, the prosecution examined 15 witnesses and produced 36 documents as evidence.
On the basis of the evidence, the court sentenced Mamata to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
The court directed that she would undergo an additional 12 months of imprisonment in case of non-payment of the fine.
However, the other two accused were acquitted for lack of sufficient evidence against them.
