Sambalpur: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Wednesday unveiled projects worth Rs 960 crore in Sambalpur, asserting that the western region of the state was witnessing progress in every sector under the double-engine government.

A day after Nuakhai, the biggest festival of the region, Majhi inaugurated 15 projects worth Rs 133.47 crore and laid the foundation stones for 35 projects estimated at Rs 825.83 crore.

The projects span sectors such as health, rural development, sports, roads and buildings and water resources.

The water resources projects include a mega lift irrigation scheme estimated at Rs 220.56 crore and minor irrigation projects worth Rs 8.88 crore.

Majhi said the double-engine government was committed to the development of western Odisha.

Our government is relentlessly working for the region’s progress. Under the guidance of PM Modi, we are committed to building a prosperous, secure and developed nation, he said.

At the programme held at the Gangadhar Meher University ground, the chief minister described Sambalpur as a symbol of the art, culture and traditions of western Odisha, maintaining that Sambalpuri language, music and sarees were integral to the region’s identity.

Majhi said development projects worth around Rs 1,910 crore had been undertaken in Sambalpur in the last one year.

He said Hindalco was investing Rs 40,000 crore for expansion of its Lapanga facility, while JSW-JFE Steel was investing Rs 32,000 crore in Rengali.

Majhi said the state government aims to transform Odisha into a USD 500 billion economy by 2036, when the state completes 100 years, and a USD 1.5 trillion economy by 2047.

On the benefits of the double-engine government, the CM said Odisha has secured projects worth Rs 90,000 crore in the railway sector, Rs 40,000 crore for roads, Rs 25,000 crore for ports and Rs 25,000 crore for shipbuilding.

He urged people to participate in the month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, ‘Aashirbadar Deepa’ and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiatives being organised to mark Modi’s birthday.
