Chhatrapur: In an order that will facilitate speedy recovery of road mishap victims, Ganjam collector Prem Chandra Choudhury directed medical officers of the district to provide timely treatment to injured persons without asking for copies of FIRs filed in police stations.
The collector passed the order while presiding over a review meeting on the status of healthcare services in the district Tuesday.
The collector’s order will have far reaching implications on treatment of road mishap victims as doctors often hesitate to attend to people injured in road mishaps without seeing the FIR copies.
Such refusals have many times led to tension between patients’ kin and doctors. In a majority of such cases, the patients succumb to injuries without getting timely treatment.
The collector also warned of stringent action against doctors remaining absent from their headquarters as this severely affects healthcare services.
Choudhury rued over the fact that some doctors fail to reach hospitals in time in case of exigencies. He also asked the doctors to have friendly behaviour with patients.
Besides, the collector stressed on improving sanitation on hospital premises and asked the medical officers of public health centres, community health centres and sub-divisional hospitals to report on their problems to the district administration.
The administration on receiving such reports will make arrangements for sanctioning funds to the hospitals.
Choudhury also directed the Bhanjanagar sub-collector to monitor the neo-natal care unit in the Bhanjanagar hospital which is not properly functioning and take steps to make it fully operational.
He asked the officials concerned to deploy a 102-ambulance at Bhatakumurada health centre and 108-ambulances at Purusottampur and Buguda hospitals to facilitate shifting of patients.
Dr Saroj Mishra, chief district medical officer, Dr Sukanti Mishra, additional district medical officer, Shyam Sundar Tripathy, district project coordinator, National Health Mission and all medical officers of the district attended the meeting. PNN
