New Delhi, Oct 24: The Supreme Court has directed the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) and the Orissa government to jointly recalculate the dues from erring miners latest by November 30.
The direction from the apex court came Tuesday after applications for clarification on the dues from some miners and others were filed citing anomalies in the calculated amount, which according to them, needed to be reviewed.
The court has now allowed the lessees to approach the CEC and present their stand on the recalculation of dues in some cases.
The CEC and the state now have to recalculate the dues and submit a final statement regarding final dues before the SC which will hear the issue again December 5.
The directions were issued when the case of illegal mining in Orissa came for hearing to a two-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice Madan Lokur and Justice Deepak Gupta. The bench examined all angles of the case in which several mining firms, the Centre, the Orissa government and Common Cause NGO (petitioner) are parties.
During the hearing it was clarified that there would be no change in the August verdict of the SC ordering the mining firms to pay compensation for carrying our illegal mining in Orissa. As per the directions of SC, the dues from the mining firms are scheduled to be submitted by them before December 31.
Senior lawyers Mukul Rohtagi, Kapil Sibal, Prashant Bhushan were scheduled to appear in the jam packed court room No:4 of SC on behalf of their clients on matters regarding implementation of the SC judgement and other connected issues. (Post News Network)
