Nandapur: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has directed the Koraput Collector to take steps to improve the deteriorating condition of Padua PM SHRI Higher Secondary School in Kulabir panchayat under Nandapur block of Koraput district.
In a letter dated October 23, 2026, NCPCR Registrar Sudha Choudhury asked the district administration to ensure compliance with the commission’s prescribed child safety regulations at the school.
The Collector has also been directed to upload photographs and relevant information on the department’s website to document compliance.
According to reports, the school suffers from inadequate infrastructure, leaking classroom roofs, a dilapidated building posing safety risks, the presence of reptiles and an unhygienic campus.
The institution caters to 919 students, from Sishu Vatika to Class XI.
The poor condition of the school hostel and other problems affecting students’ education were highlighted in Orissa POST September 10.
Following the reports, human rights activist and lawyer Anup Patra examined the allegations and lodged a complaint with the NCPCR.
Taking the complaint seriously, the commission registered a case and examined the matter before directing the Koraput Collector to take corrective measures.
Patra, students and parents have welcomed the commission’s intervention.
They expressed hope that the block, district and state administrations, along with the Education Department, would comply with the directions and take prompt steps to improve the school’s infrastructure and ensure a safe learning environment for students.
