Sambalpur: After the batting debacle Thursday, Orissa bowlers found the going tough Friday and were taken by Uttar Pradesh batsmen on the second day of their U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy match at the VSS Stadium here Friday.
In reply to Orissa’s first innings score of 227, Uttra Pradesh rode on a scintillating century by Abhishek Goswami (189, 235b, 26×4, 3×6) to reach 325 for six at stumps. Abhishek was ably aided by Bobby Yadav (51, 119b, 7×4) and Shubham Chaubey (35). The visitors now lead by 98 runs with four wickets in hand.
Abhishek dominated the Orissa bowlers all through during the innings. He put on 76 runs for the second wicket with Shubham and 160 runs with Bobby for the third wicket.
Pappu Roy (3/68) was the pick of the bowlers for Orissa. He was well supported by Debabrata Pradhan (2/59). Earlier Orissa resuming their innings at the overnight score of 223/9 could add only four runs to their total.
