Bhubaneswar, Nov 30: The state government Thursday said that 1187 teaching posts are lying vacant in seven state-run universities against the sanctioned strength of 2541 posts.
In a written reply to the Assembly, state Higher Education Minister Ananta Das said the government has so far sanctioned 2541 teaching posts in seven state universities, of which 1354 posts have been filled while remaining 1187 posts are lying vacant.
Utkal University has the highest vacancies at 521 posts, followed by Sambalpur University (306), Berhampur University (185), Ravenshaw University (78), North Orissa University (47), Shree Jagannath University (28) and Fakir Mohan University (22), he informed.
According to the minister’s reply, 73 out of 150 professor posts, 141 of 305 associate professor posts and 193 of 581 assistant professor posts are vacant in these universities.
The state government has given in-principle approval to the universities for filling up of the sanctioned faculty posts and the concern institutes have initiated the process to fill up the posts, Das said.
Similarly, the government has also given permission to North Orissa University and Fakir Mohan University for creation of and filling up of new non-teaching posts in the institutions, while the proposal to create such posts in other five universities are under consideration of finance department, the higher education minister said.
Besides, newly formed GM University, RD Women’s University and Khalikote University have been asked to create 28, 67 and 42 teaching posts in their respective institutes while the government is consulting with finance department for filling up of the non-teaching positions in the three universities, he pointed out.
At present, the staffs of three autonomous colleges, which are being upgraded to universities, have been deployed in the newly created three universities, he added. (Post News Network)
