Bhubaneswar: Chit fund scam accused Subhankar Nayak who was spotted watching Wednesday’s India-Sri Lanka T-20 match at the VIP gallery of Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Friday broke his silence and said he got a pass from his advocate.
“When I had visited my advocate to discuss a case, he came to know about my love for the game of cricket. He offered me his pass and I used it to watch the cricket match,” Nayak said.
“There is nothing wrong in it as the court has not barred me from watching cricket,” Nayak said, adding, “I don’t know what the BCCI and the VIP galleries are. As I got the pass, I entered the place concerned and watched the match.” Earlier in the day, Cuttack-Barabati MLA Debasish Samantray demanded a thorough probe to find out as to how an accused got a VIP pass.
The High Court had granted Nayak conditional bail in the Seashore chit fund scam August 1 this year. It had directed him to furnish two sureties of `2 lakh each and either `5 lakh cash or property surety. This apart, the court has also barred Nayak from travelling outside the state.
The chit fund scam accused was seen among top VIPs in the BCCI Box of Barabati Stadium during India-Sri Lanka T20 match December 20. The BCCI Box is reserved for top class officers, ministers, sportspersons and OCA members.
