Bhubaneswar: In a bid to return lost or stolen devices to their rightful owners, the commissionerate police are developing a new mobile application that will enable individuals to track their missing gadgets.
The decision to introduce such an application came in the backdrop of a large stock of recovered electronic gadgets dumped in the police store rooms (malkhanas), which has turned out to be a tiresome job for the cops to return them to their owners.
Commissioner of police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania told the media that police department is developing a new app called ‘Lost and Found,’ which will be compatible with smart phones and help people to trace their lost mobile phones and motorcycles just by registering a complaint.
Khurania said, “Whenever a person loses his mobile phone or it is stolen, he will simply need to upload the IMEI number along with the cell phone brand name in the complaint box of the app and it will match the gadget with the list of the recovered mobile phones by the police.” In case of stolen motorcycles, one will have to provide the engine number and the registration number to track the missing bike, he added.
He further said that the list of seized mobile phones and motorcycles will be uploaded in the application interface, which will be very techno-friendly and easy to search missing items and retrieve them conveniently.
The application is being developed by a private firm, Pan India Application, and it will be an essential tracking tool for anyone who has experienced the stress, worry and inconvenience associated with a lost or stolen device. It is also learnt that an officer will be appointed to keep track of the complaints and ensure smooth operation of the application.
