Bhubaneswar: After the stupendous success of their parody video ‘Made in Odisha’ the comedy group, Bhubaneswar Komedians, have done another video based on the Bomikhal flyover collapse titled ‘Who Killed Bomikhal?’

In the video they describe how corruption and politics has led to the collapse of the flyover not once but twice.

The video’s director Akash Baghar said, “A flyover near Bomikhal collapsed May 3, 2018 for the second time. A father and a labourer have been killed so far. But who killed Bomikhal?” This is the question that always comes to the mind and so we decided to create a video and present the story through a parody song.”

Bhubaneswar Komedians composed and uploaded the video Thursday and has got 8,000 views so far. The video ‘Who killed Bomikhal’, revolves around corruption which snuffs out innocent lives and how the culprits responsible get easy bail, he said.

In the video which starts with a father giving his son a gift on his birthday is followed by the famous 1990s song ‘Maine Payal Hai Chankaayi’, sung by Falguni Pathak.

It revolves around the story of the flyover collapse where people are blindfolded, depicting society’s ignorance. The video shows how a father never returns home and how culprits are declared innocent at the end. The video concludes with the son unwrapping the gift and guess what he finds? A blindfold.

Akash said the blindfold concept in the story represents the attitude of society who are blind to dangerous situations and try to pass on that to the next generation. The video ends with the line which clearly drives home the idea, “Bridges are meant to connect people, not break them”.

Bhubaneswar Komedians member Akash Baghar wrote the script, directed and sang it along with Samar Pratap Nayak.

They shot the video a month ago. The video was directed by Akash Baghar and Samar Pratap Nayak who had earlier directed ‘Made in Odisha’ which described unexplored tourist destinations in the state.

The editing was done by Sidarth Goutam while theatre actor Dipanwit Dashmohapatra, Pranab Prasanna Rath, Jyotiranjan Dash and Satyabrat Mohapatra portrayed roles in the four-minute video.

Commenting on the popularity of the video Akash said, “It remains immaterial to us whether it goes viral or not. We wanted to talk about the issue and we did,” he said.

Panda Infra Company owner Pratap Panda was arrested May 4. However, he was granted bail soon. The flyover had earlier collapsed in September 2017 and a man was killed.

“It’ takes two deaths for us to wake up. We remain silent and wait for people to suffer. Our attitude gets in the way of even with things as basic as infrastructure,” Akash said on the flyover collapse.
