With annual examinations in many schools getting over, parents are busy trying to zero in on the best options for a family holiday. While many want to go on a relaxing trip to recharge, some parents want their wards to learn something interesting that can help them in their academics. Orissa POST spoke with a few mothers who shared their ideas of a perfect post-exam holiday.
Lopamudra Priyadarshini of Cuttack whose son just appeared for the Class II final examination said, “My son likes to go on a picnic to regain his energy. I also feel that a family get together is essential to strengthen bonds. Spending time together not only promotes family bonding, we also create happy memories. However, the sudden rise in the day temperature has dampened the spirit a bit. Therefore, we now plan to spend time at home this Sunday to recharge ourselves as well as the kids. Spending time with his siblings will make him learn a few things on family bonding.”
Susmita Mohapatra of Bhubaneswar said, “My son has appeared for the Class II examination and he takes a lot of interest in watching mythological animation series. A close relative gifted him a set of videos of the ‘Panchatantra’ tales on his last birthday. So, we plan to encourage him to watch those videos so that he can learn the moral of these stories which would stand him in good stead in life. I am sure he will find these stories entertaining as well as educative.”
Anjali Behera of Cuttack said, “My daughter will be in Class IV this year. She takes a lot of interest in painting. This year I have decided to enroll her in a class to learn the basics of painting. This short-term guidance will surely hone her skills. Besides, painting is not just artistic endeavour, it also calms the young mind and increases mental strength.”
“My husband wants her to take abacus training. The lessons will increase her interest in arithmetic, which is most important for a kid at this age,” Anjali added.
Sudipti Mohapatra of Bhubaneswar said, “My son has appeared for the Class V annual examination this year. He wanted to learn more about computer science. Although we have a desktop computer at home, my husband has decided to send him to a nearby computer institute where he can pick up the fundamentals, as learning computer from a young age has become essential these days. It will be difficult for him to match the academic pace if he doesn’t know the proper use of computers.”
