Bhubaneswar: He was considered to be India’s main weapon for India’s tour to Australia. However, for all his exploits in the IPL, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has had a year that he would surely want to forget. Jasprit Bumrah so far has not been able to pick up wickets in powerplays during the ODIs India have played in 2020. He also went wicket-less in the ongoing third ODI during the powerplay overs making it a horrible year for him.
It is expected that the team’s main bowler will pick up wickets regularly during the powerplay overs. However, Bumrah failed to do that in New Zealand earlier in the year. When Indian cricketers got back to the field against Australia after a gap of nine months, Bumrah has again gone wicket-less in the powerplays of the three ODIs. His stats look dismal indeed in the nine ODIs India have played in 2020 – 458 runs conceded in 34 overs at the an economy of slightly less than six – and no wickets. The figures just sum up the dismal international year he has so far had.
Bumrah had an exceptional IPL with 27 wickets for Mumbai Indians in 15 games. He was next only to South African Kagiso Rabada who dismissed 30 batsmen for Delhi Capitals. So people were hoping that Bumrah would carry the IPL form into the limited overs series against Australia. Sadly that has not happened.
On the other hand, , India gave a debut to left-arm fast bowler T Natarajan in the third ODI against Australia at Sydney. The seamer dismissed Marnus Labuschagne for seven to get his maiden ODI wicket.
