Bhubaneswar: A woman Saturday lodged a complaint with Government Railway Police (GRP) station at Master Canteen here alleging that her 10-year old daughter was kidnapped by a miscreant from Bhubaneswar Railway station here Thursday. However, the girl was rescued from Khurda forests Saturday.
According to the complaint, the victim is a resident of Nolia Sahi at Sandhakuda village under Marine Police station of Paradip. She along with her grandmother had boarded an intercity express train from Paradip railway station Wednesday to visit Vina in Madhya Pradesh where her aunt was staying.
During their journey, they came in contact with the kidnapper who also boarded the train from the same station. He told the elderly lady that he had the experience of train journey and that he would help them.
Winning the trust of the victim’s granny, the miscreant accompanied the duo to the ticket counter at Bhubaneswar railway station. He provided them the misinformation that there was no train to Vina for the day and they would have to wait for the Rajya Rani Express.
Later, when the duo was waiting at the railway station, the girl went to a nearby snacks shop at the platform. After some time, when the girl did not turn up, the worried elderly lady informed the parents of the victim about the incident.
Meanwhile, police sources claimed that the girl was rescued by the Child Welfare Committee of Khurda and shifted to a childcare centre at Kalinga Vihar here.
It was learnt that the kidnapper lured the girl to outside the railway station on the pretext of giving her sweets. Later, he took her in an auto-rickshaw and sped away towards Khurda where he left her alone in a jungle. The victim took the help of some locals who were going to a nearby river to bring water for Durga Puja rituals. The locals rescued the girl before handing her over to Khurda Town police who contacted the CWC members. The police Saturday night brought the girl from the childcare centre and said the girl would be handed over to her parents Sunday.
