Cuttack: Photographs of an acid attack victim currently undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital here has gone viral on social media platform.
The matter came to light after the victim informed a para-legal volunteer of District Legal Service Authority, Sarmistha Rani Nanda, about the matter Thursday.
The victim said she is spending sleepless nights after her husband, who threw acid on her, sent threatening messages on her WhatsApp number along with the photographs. Sources said some photographs taken during dressing of wounds have been uploaded by an unknown. While questions are being raised as to how the photographs of the victim have gone viral, it has also put a question on the safety of the victim. The victim’s family members have also expressed concern about her safety.
Meanwhile, Nanda alleged that although one-and-a-half month has passed since the acid attack, the accused is still roaming freely. “Now, the family members of the victim are attending her at SCB. I will talk with SCB superintendent Shyama Kanungo to beef up her security,” Nanda said.
The SCB superintendent, however, expressed ignorance about the incident. “If such an incident has occurred, we will probe into it,” Kanungo said. Notably, the victim, a third year student of Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) of MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, was attacked with acid by her husband November 16. She suffered severe burn injuries on her face, chest, left eye, hands and other parts of body and was subsequently shifted to SCBMCH. She is currently undergoing treatment at the plastic surgery department of the hospital.
