Bhubaneswar: The state government will hold a high-level meeting Thursday with an aim to work out strategies to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers in the upcoming summer.
According to sources at energy department, the meeting would be held at Secretariat to work out a strategy and take up the action plan prepared to ensure uninterrupted power supply and avoid power-cuts in the coming months. Officials from energy department and water resources department along with those of Orissa Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) and Gridco will meet at Secretariat and discuss the issue.
While the daily requirement of energy for the state is 3,800 MW in January, it will be around 3,850 MW in February, 3,950 MW in March, 4,050 MW in April and 4,100 MW to 4,200 MW during May and June this year.
Currently, the government receives power up to 1,060 MW from central pool and 1,000 MW from various hydro projects in the state. Independent Power Producers (IPPs) provide 740 MW, while thermal plants provide 680 MW power. The government also gets power from other sources including 100 MW from power banks.
Though the water level in reservoirs this year is less as compared to previous years the energy department has clarified that it may not go for power-cut during the summer as it hopes to get adequate power from hydel projects at major water reservoirs, independent power producers and power banks. Sources said the energy department has planned to procure power from Delhi and Punjab apart from 200 MW from power banks.
