Bhubaneswar, March 24: Noted film director Sabyasachi Mohapatra’s Oriya film Adima Vichar has bagged the national award in the category of Best Film in Oriya. The film was chosen for its vibrant portrayal of a tribal community whose enabling humanism shows a way out of pettiness and prejudice.
The 62nd National Film Awards were announced Tuesday by the chairpersons of the three juries on feature films, non-feature films and best writing on cinema.
“I’m over the moon. I have won several awards but winning a National Award is something special. It has its own charm and that too in the year of Nabakalebar, it is a blessing,” the acclaimed director said.
Mohapatra voiced his unhappiness at the current crop of Oriya mainstream movies. “I’m not at all happy with the present standard of mainstream Oriya films. Oriya culture and tradition is missing from the mainstream movies. But I’m optimistic that a change will come and people will get a chance to see good films. People want to watch quality movies,” Mohapatra said.
The director said he has dedicated this award to the people of the state. “My father is my inspiration. He is the one who has always supported me during my hard days. The film is the outcome of the hard work of three generations of the Mohapatra family. My father is the scriptwriter, it is directed by me and my son is the cameraman, so winning the award makes it all the more special”, he said.
