Kukudakhandi: A day after Orissa POST published a report of four orphan kids left to fend for themselves after the death of their parents at Masihakhali village under this block, the block development officer (BDO) and chairperson visited the kids and enquired on their condition Sunday.
The officials provided a compensation of Rs 4,000 to the kids and assured to rehabilitate them in a government-run hostel where they can receive education and avail better living.
Kukudakhandi BDO Pratap Chandra Pradhan provided Rs 2,000 from Harischandra Yojana. Similarly, the block chairman, Kamakhya Prasad Patra, provided Rs 2,000 from his pocket.
“I came to know of the plight of the kids while reading the newspaper. I will approach the Ganjam childline officer and take steps to rehabilitate the children,” BDO said.
Locals praised the two officials for their kind gesture and demanded to arrange education facilities for the children.
According to sources, the children did odd jobs for their living after their parents passed away following some ailment. Since then, the elder girl had taken the responsibility of the family.
The kids thanked the officials and expressed their wish to study.
