All accused allegedly involved in murder of youth in Cuttack during cricket match arrested

Cuttack: Police have arrested all the four accused persons in connection with murder of a youth Sunday during a cricket match at Choudwar. The accused have been identified as Jaga, Smrutiranjan aka Muna, Sanjay aka Muguni and Badal. All are residents of Brahmapur village in Cuttack district. Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra said Monday that all the four have been forwarded to court. Smrutiranjan is suspected to be the prime accused in the murder case as he is the person who allegedly stabbed the deceased Lucky Rout. Jaga had been arrested Sunday.

Mishra said a detailed probe is underway. Appropriate action will be taken after reason behind murder became clear, he said. Mishra added that police are also probing whether any past enmity led to the murder of Lucky.

Narrating about the incident, the DCP said, there was a cricket match between Brahmapur and Shankarpur villages at Mahisalanda village under Choudwar police limits April 2. Irked by the decision of an umpire, youths of Brahmapur village tried to manhandle him. Lucky, who rushed to help and rescue the umpire was allegedly stabbed then by Smrutiranjan. The victim succumbed to injuries at the SCB Medical College and Hospital here due to excessive bleeding.

“Following interrogation of all accused persons, we can reveal other angles for investigation in the case. The preliminary probe indicated that the cause of death was due to profuse bleeding and the circumstances that led to the incident was sudden provocation,” Mishra told mediapersons Monday.
