Bhubaneswar, May 29: The Union government has mandated all colleges to acquire accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) by the end of this year to avail grants from the University Grants Commission (UGC).
In a move to expedite the assessment and accreditation process, UGC has also written to state and Central universities across the country to depute experts who will act as peer assessors of NAAC for assessing the colleges.
However, only experts from Central University, Koraput were called up to form expert peer groups from Orissa whereas no experts from state universities were called for the purpose.
NAAC, which calls its standing committee meeting once in every three months to decide on accreditation results of assessed colleges, has met twice this month. Six colleges from the state have been assessed by expert peer groups and provided accreditation during the meeting of standing committee May 11.
Three colleges have participated for the first time in the process of which Gandhi Institute for Technological Advancement, Khurda received ‘A’ grade while People’s College, Ganjam got ‘B’ grade and Gopal Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Koraput got ‘C’ grade. The three colleges scored 3.30, 2.12 and 1.52 grade points respectively.
Similarly, three colleges have participated in the second cycle of which Sri Krushna Chandra Gajapati Autonomous College in Paralakhemundi got ‘B’ grade with 2.30 grade points, Adikavi Saraladas College got ‘B’ grade with 2.20 grade points and Dharmasala Mahavidyalaya, Jajpur also got ‘B’ grade with 2.09 grade points.
The Medical Council of India has meanwhile written to the three medical college hospitals in the state asking to depute an expert peer group to assess and accredit new private and government medical colleges.
