Bhubaneswar, June 3: Ameek Kiran Baath of Orissa emerged champion in doubles of the AITA Super Series U-14 tennis tournament at Solaris Club in Pune, Friday.
Ameek along with his Gujarat partner Priyanshi Bhandari prevailed over the duo of Chandrakala Tentu and Joshika Premkumar from Chennai in a lop-sided final. The Ameek and Priyanshi duo defeated their opponents easily in two direct sets 6-1, 6-1. Ameek earned 50 valuable points for emerging champion.
But in the singles category she lost in the semifinals. This is Ameek’s second doubles title in the season. Earlier, she had won a doubles National Series title in Panchgani, Maharashtra last month.
Event postponed
The 17th Inter-District Sepak Takraw Sub-Junior Boys’ and Girls’ Championships to be organised by Orissa State Sepak Takraw Association (OSSTA) at Cuttack, June 11-12, has been postponed. “The competition has been postponed as all the schools are closed due to the summer vacation. Now it will be played at Puri, starting July first week,” stated OSSTA through a press release, Friday.
Squad announced
Seven rowers including five girls and two boys from Orissa will take part in the National Sub-Junior Rowing Championships at Tamil Nadu, June 9-12. The teams were announced Friday and will leave for the venue
June 4.
The squad: (Girls) Sonali, Supriya, Reshma Minz, Ritu Kaudi, Deepika; (Boys) Kibant Jena, Pitambar Harijan.
