Malkangiri: The Odisha Police Wednesday unearthed a Maoist dump in Malkangiri district, seizing arms and ammunition, a senior officer said.
Based on inputs provided by surrendered Maoists, a search was launched in Mathili police station area bordering Chhattisgarh, resulting in the seizure of the cache, Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Vinoda Patil H told reporters.
“Arms and ammunition, IEDs, claymore mines and incriminating documents were seized,” the officer said.
He said the seized arms and ammunition are suspected to belong to cadres of the Andhra-Orissa Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of the banned outfit CPI(Maoist).
Malkangiri has become Maoist-free, with the arrest of two cadres and surrender of 23 other red rebels between January 2025 and March 31 this year, the SP said.
Three major Maoist dumps were unearthed in Malkangiri in June this year, the officer said.
Combing and search operations are being regularly conducted by the Odisha Police to unearth more such caches, he added.
