Bhubaneswar, Nov 1: Asif Haque and Samartha Prusty emerged champions in the men’s and the women’s event of the KDTTA All Orissa State Ranking Table Tennis Championship, which concluded here Sunday.
In the men’s final, Asif thrashed Tousif Haque 4-0 (11-7, 11-6, 11-6,11-6) to clinch the title. In the women’s category, Samartha triumphed over her nemesis Ananya Basak 4-1 (11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9,11-9) to win the title.
Bikash Singh took the top honours in the youth boys’ singles category. Bikash prevailed over M Ishwar 4-1 (6-11, 11-4, 11-5, 1-5). In the Junior boys’ segment, Janmenjay Moharana defeated M Iswar Rao 4-1(11-6, 15-13, 11-7, 3-11, 1-6) to win the title. In the girls’ segment, Ananya Basak spanked Ankita Senapati 4-0 (11-6, 11-3, 11-7, 11-8).
Other results: (cadet girls) Sushree Patnaik bt Swetapadma Dalei 3-2, (cadet boys) Sahil Suman Bhuyan bt Asim Amlan Mishra 3-0, (sub-junior girls) Payal Pani bt Gayatri Mittra 4-2 ( sub-junior boys) Krishna Prusty bt Sahil Suman Bhuyan 4-0.
Medals galore
Orissa bagged eight medals in the International Open Rowing Championship, which was concluded at Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Sunday. On the concluding day, Orissa rowers clinched three more medals. In the men’s windsurfing event, D Sekhar Rao stood first to clinch a gold. Manaswini Moharana secured the second position to win a silver medal in the women’s segment. Dilesh Rao bagged a bronze medal in the same event. Orissa had bagged five medals Saturday.
New association
A new Association of Kho-Kho named Modern Association of Kho-Kho was formed at Cuttack, Sunday. Guru Padarbinda Raut and Asima Mohapatra have been elected as the secretary and the president of the association respectively. Thirty members of the body have also been elected in a meeting.
