Bolangir, Nov 22: As our country observed the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, over 100 countries in the world have his statues as a token of their admiration for Gandhian philosophy, a right to information (RTI) data revealed.
According to reports, out of 102 countries 82 countries have his full-length statues while 20 others have half-size statues. An RTI activist of Bolangir named Hemanta Panda had sought this information from the external affairs department of government of India.
As per the provisions of section 6(3) of RTI Act-2005, activist Panda was provided such information by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) of central government, report said.
However, ICCR has also conveyed that information as to currencies and postages of how many countries have images of Gandhiji are not available. Amongst the number of statues of most revered personalities, Gandhiji occupies the top position, Panda shared.
