Jeypore (Koraput): Vigilance sleuths Saturday detained an SC/ ST development department audit officer in Jeypore in Koraput district and seized cash amounting to Rs 7.29 lakh from his possession.
The audit officer was identified as Artabandhu Rout of Bhubaneswar.
Acting on a tip-off, vigilance sleuths intercepted Artabandhu near Jeypore. Sources said the audit officer was on his way to Bhubaneswar after finishing audit at Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) in Malkangiri. Cash amounting to Rs 7.29 lakh was also seized from his possession, sources added.
While Artabandhu was detained by the officials in Jeypore, interrogation is underway. The audit officer is likely to be arrested as he is unable to explain the possession of the huge cash amount, added the sources.
