Bhubaneswar: Mancheswar police Tuesday rescued a woman in an inebriated state under Rasulgarh bridge here after local residents spotted her.
A mobile police control room (PCR) team which reached the spot described the woman as Sarika (name changed) and sent her for medical examination.
“We found the woman sitting in an inebriated state under Rasulgarh overbridge. When we asked her to visit the nearby police station she declined to do so. However, we informed the police as she was in an inebriated state,” said Chitta Ranjan Nayak, a resident, told this paper. On being asked where she hails from, the woman said she is from West Bengal.
“I was working at a bar in Mumbai for the past few months. However, a woman offered me a better package at a bar in Berhampur,” she added.
“The woman then tried to push me into flesh trade in Berhampur, and when I refused she started physically harassing me by rolling burning cigarettes on my hands. She coerced me into entertaining her customers. She also took away Rs 1 lakh from me forcibly. However, today I managed to flee the place by boarding a bus to Bhubaneswar,” she further said.
The woman was unable to speak Oriya and she managed to converse in Hindi with the cops. Meanwhile, the police said they are investigating the matter and will take action accordingly. The police, according to sources, will probe whether the woman has hurt herself by branding cigarettes on her hands. PNN
